Damage Excess: Rentals are subject to an Accident Damages Excess (ADE). With the purchase of Accident Excess Reduction (AER) the Accident Damages Excess is reduced to nil.
Loss Damage Waiver (LDW): provides cover for accident damages to the Hertz Vehicle and/or third party property, subject to the accident damages excess and as long as the terms and conditions of the rental agreement are being complied with. Third party liability claims are limited to NZD$1 million and cover property damage (including any animal).
Personal Accident Insurance (PAI): can be purchased at the rental counter if required. PAI provides compensation for accidental death or bodily injury to a maximum amount of NZD$1000,000 and is limited to the events stated in the policy. PAI is not available for persons aged 80years of age or older. If you already have travel insurance, PAI may not be necessary - please check your personal policy.
Location Surcharge: Rentals collected at the Kerikeri and Gisborne locations will incur a fee. Any pick ups at the Wellington Ferry Terminal after 5.00pm will incur an after hours fee. Any pick ups at the Picton Ferry Terminal after 6.00pm may incur an after hours fee. This will be advised at the time of reservation.
Security Bond: A credit card imprint is taken for the bond at the time of vehicle collection and destroyed at termination of the hire, provided that the vehicle is returned in the same condition that it left the depot and with full petrol tank. In case a credit card is unavailable, a cash deposit is required (under the condition that the Insurance Waiver is purchased) and will be refunded (if no damage on the rental car and vehicle returned with full petrol tank) will be refunded via General Travel New Zealand bank account approx 2 weeks after completion of the hire.
Multi-leg Hires: For rentals covering both islands, i.e, Multi Island or Continuous rentals, there must be a minimum 3 day hire on one island. When returning the vehicle Hertz allows a grace period of 59 minutes after which the clients are liable for an extra days charge.
Age Requirement: Minimum rental age: 21 years
Licence: A valid full resident country driver’s licence is to be presented at the time of rental. This may be your own licence provided that it is recognised internationally and is in English. International Drivers Permits are also recognised.
Optional Extras (for Hertz, all optional extras must be pre-booked but paid direct on collection of the vehicle):
Baby/Child Seats: New Zealand law requires every person in a vehicle to wear an approved restraint (eg seatbelt). All children up tothe age of 7 years must use an approved child restraint appropriate to their age and size. Rental car companies offer a range of sizes including Baby Capsules, Baby Seats, Child Seats and Booster Seats (depending on the child’s age and weight).
The following are available for hire: Infant Seats (birth to approx 6 months), Child Seats (approx 6 months to 4 years) and a Booster Seat (approx 5-7 years).
GPS ("Neverlost"): Optional GPS units are available for hire must be pre-booked.
