Nelson City overlooks the magnificent vista of Tasman Bay and provides a gateway to Abel Tasman National Park.
A region of rich harvest, apples, pears, nuts and berries can all be bought at roadside stalls. There are a number of boutique wineries in the area and they are the craft beer capital of New Zealand.
There are just 14 national parks in New Zealand and the Nelson Tasman region is blessed with three of them, all within ninety minutes of the city. Abel Tasman National Park is the most popular with its lush native bush, golden sandy beaches, clear turquoise water and rugged limestone cliffs. The sheltered bays are popular for walking, cruising, sailing and sea kayaking.
